You may recall that I bought some gears a while back. Here is the first fruit from that crop:

The hat will be for sale in Elaine's store tomorrow. If it is well-received, there will be many more like it (but no two will ever be the same).

Each gear is hand-sewn to the hat, as it the leather hat-band, and brass "feather". The gears on the stalk of the "feather" are soldered while those at the ends are held by the wire. The hat itself is quality 100% wool felt. I'm not sure what the exact hat size is, only that Best fits heads measuring between 21 3/4 inches to 22 1/4 inches (depends how angled you wear it) - to avoid the temptation of keeping it, it is a size too small for me. Check the new items list in Elaine's store tomorrow for the details.

That's really cool. It totally screams "steampunk".

That is fantastic! But why am I not surprised... Just out of curiosity where did you get the gears? I've been collecting keys which I still need more of and I need to get some no make that a LOT of gears as well for a series of paintings. Any help you could toss my way would be grand. Hey one of these days wanna go down to the flea market or antique shops?

I disassembled old clocks (easier said than done, BTW, since most of the gears are on shafts that need to be cut). I need to find a better source.

I haven't been to the flea market in ages! I'd be into that. It's still just Saturdays, right?

What color wire is that? Copper would look cool. Nice hat though

This is so lovely. I think it will be a good seller, imo.

Ooooh, pretty...

My wife says "no, we're not eating bread and butter just to get pretty things"

Though I'd be quite willing to give up eating for a few months for a hat as cute as that.

It's at once so retro and so postmodern.
I've never seen anything quite like it.
I don't see you much, but I can admire your artistry from a distance.

Curse my hideously-deformed cranium! My head is too big for the glorious hat! My hopes and dreams of bein mobbed by lovely ladies in victorian undergarments are dashed!
