i hope this is ok.
today i met some of the last remaining navajo code talkers.
they told me they were honored at pine ridge reservation where some children sang them songs, which was very "moving."
today, at mt rushmore, they were honored. tomorrow, at crazy horse, they will be honored again, which i am planning on seeing.
they were very kind because i didn't realize that it would cost money to sign a poster. i thought there was a talk, actually, on the subject, and that they would be attending. when they realized i didn't even have a checkbook, and that i was here (south dakota) all the way from oregon for a public interest legal internship, they signed a poster for me for free and their daughters told them i would like to shake their hands. the money is being raised for their care. |

I did some gardening on Canada day. This is one of my latest additions to the gardens. Mandarin Honeysuckle. She's beautiful. :)

Post guy admitted to me today that Expedited/express, infact, isn't really expedited at all.
No shocker, I said. Every time I ship with those, things invariably get lost or delayed horribly. It's worse than regular service and it costs 3x as much. |

A friend of ours passed away this morning, last week, Leslie and I spirited away to Seattle to visit her.
It was important to see her one last time.

Sarah Palin has resigned from office as Governor of Alaska to concentrate on either running for Senate, Congress of President of the US.
Some of the media which I have read allows for reading to comment on the article.
The things which people are saying about her are horrible. They are sexist, offensive, cruel, dehumanizing.
If these things were said about a left leaning woman heads would roll, but because it is being said about a Conservative woman, it seems that even supposed feminists are joining in the vitrol. |

Duwamish River photos

The Duwamish River is just barely south of downtown Seattle. It was widened and straightened at some point to become an industrial waterway for the city. More general info can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duwamish_River
The river is also a federal Superfund site. The Superfund List is a roster of the most toxic contaminated sites in the country. More info about the pollution and the cleanup can be found here: http://www.duwamishcleanup.org
These photos were taken in June of 2009. The Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition is kind enough to offer free tours of the river. If you live in the Seattle area, definitely check them out via the link above.
